Junior UX Interaction Designer

Job Summary:

Become a key part of a startup team that continues to grow and work on multiple products in multiple industries. Ideally looking for a Junior UX Interaction Designer with experience in designing web applications for consumer and b2b applications. Responsibilities & Duties:

This role will work directly with the Chief Design Officer, in a Lean UX methodology, to create and communicate design requirements to the product engineering team. Regular responsibilities will include meeting with users and stakeholders to understand needs, participate and contribute to ideation sessions, design UI interactions for established requirements, and work with engineering teams to communicate design requirements. Exploration and learning of new ux methods and technologies beyond these will be encouraged and supported as well.

  • Gather and evaluate user requirements, in collaboration with stakeholders, users, product managers, and engineers
  • Illustrate design ideas using white boards, storyboards, journey maps, and sitemaps
  • Designing graphic user interface elements, like forms, e-commerce buy flows, communications, and admin interfaces
  • Use Lean UX methodologies to help product teams take ideas to fully released software products
  • Design UI mockups and prototypes that clearly illustrate how the site will function and look. Tools used include Sketch, Adobe XD, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Prepare and present rough drafts to internal product teams
  • Identify and troubleshoot UX problems (e.g. mobile responsiveness)
  • Create adjustments based on feedback
  • Participate in qualitative and quantitative user research

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1 to 3 years of UX or interaction design experience
  • Firm understanding of UX design principles
  • Have strong empathy for others
  • Experience with mobile apps, desktop software, and web applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (the ability to effectively communicate an idea)
  • Ability to manage time wisely across projects and competing priorities, meet agreed upon deadlines, and be accountable for work.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of design software like Adobe XD or Sketch

Bonus qualifications – nice to have but not required

  • Experience with responsive Web Design and frameworks that incorporate strong grid principles, such as Flex or CSS Grid
  • Strong ability to recognize and predict use cases and user interaction, including happy path as well as edge and corner cases, and incorporate them into designs
  • Fundamental understanding of information design / architecture, and user psychology
  • Understanding of Agile software development methodologies
  • Portfolio of design projects
